Wow, life is crazy. Just two weeks ago I was at the South Seattle gym playing basketball on a Friday night with my banana boat crew (they know who they are), enjoying living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world (if you ask me), to leaving the life that I had built in Seattle a week later to start a new journey in Chicago. Now anyone who knows me knows that I have been talking about living in Chicago for about six years. Even before Seattle was a thought, but that’s where the story begins it’s not about Seattle or Chicago but the journey of life.
So many people want to move to other places, experience life in another city or country even, but they are scared. Fear can hold you back from doing a lot of things in life; fear will end your life much sooner than death ever will. I used to live in fear, that’s until I decided to take life into my own hands and decided to live the life that I want to live. It’s not about what other people are doing or what other people have because at the end of the day we all want different things; we all have want own experiences. I know money plays a large role in the things that we want to do but I never let money or the thought of anyone else’s opinion affect the way that I live my life and the places that I go in life. I’m also thankful to have such loving and supportive parents that will do anything for me to be happy and live the life that I want to live. I know that God places us in situations that we belong in even if we can’t see it in that moment we all just have to trust in the process. The journey of life is painful yet beautiful. It has the ability to make you feel defeated and then the next second feel like you can’t lose. My journey has taken me to some amazing places and I have met such amazing people while living in Seattle, friends that I know I will be friends with forever, as well as getting some life lessons that I could never get while living back in the Midwest. Yes, it was difficult being away from my family and friends. Some nights I lay awake in my bed sad and wondering if I made the right decision but I think it taught me to appreciate life and appreciate my family a lot more.
Now being back home presents a different set of challenges but I know that I just have to trust in my process. Part of the journey is learning through mistakes we have made but we have to own that as part of journey. We have to live the life that we want to live because at the end of the day we only have one and it goes by quickly. We spend all our childhood wanting to be adults and all of our adulthood wanting to be young again. You have to remember that while you are trying to create your own path you need to really take the time to reflect and appreciate your loved ones and close friends because they are far and few between in life. Fall in love with your grind rather than success. Remember we aren’t bigger than any job or anyone and that we all have the ability change the world and impact people’s lives big or small. Love you and own your journey.
Give us an introduction about yourself
CA Clothing Group (Carpenter-Asem), established in April 2017, is a partnership between close friends Jordan Carpenter and Simon Asem. Striving for success has helped to strengthen the bond of not only our partnership, but friendship as well. Recognizing our keen sense of creativity and design, we have embarked on a journey of reshaping how you see clothing.
What’s your bio? How did you get started?
Jordan proposed the idea of starting something new and innovative after a while of studying fashion movements and trends. After several months of research and planning, we finally made the decision to launch our brand. Not only were we inspired by establish individuals in the clothing business, but we also aim to inspire our own generation. We believe that our generation is full of talented individuals that are hesitant to take the leap of faith into making their dreams a reality. We simply want to encourage other individuals to do what they want, and not hold back.
Why did you decide to choose fashion designing as a career?
We chose the fashion industry because we wanted to redefine how people viewed clothing. The goal of our brand is to change the mindset of conforming to social norms. Every day, we see brands limiting their products to certain standards. People are informally told they either have to look a certain way or have a specific social status in order to properly represent a brand. Our intention is to break that barrier and introduce a brand that accepts everyone for who they truly are. We want people to know that it may be our brand, but it’s their style that represents us.
What according to you is a favorite part of being a fashion designer?
It’s definitely difficult to identify a favorite part of what we do. What we cherish the most is the opportunity of sparking new ideas and being creative. Getting the opportunity to interact with a wide variety of people makes it all worthwhile. Being fashion designers gives us an artistic platform of expressing ourselves to the world. To us, having the ability to create a new piece is like taking a dream and turning it into a reality.
Where do you see your brand going in the next 2-5 years?
We are always trying to create new and innovative styles for our brand. Currently, there are new designs being drafted everyday by our team. In the near future, customers will start to see our brand beginning to redefine how society views the typical t-shirt. We won’t give out all of our secrets on what’s happening behind closed doors but anticipate a clothing revolution from CA Clothing Group. The future 2-5 years hold a ton of opportunity for our brand. We plan on forming collaborations with a multitude of different individuals in order to gain a larger audience for our brand. With the help of social media, we hope to globally expand CA Clothing Group. Our brand should not just be limited to one culture.
Who/what inspires you to design?
Our inspiration came from a multitude of successful influencers in the fashion industry. The main one being Jerry Lorenzo. Mr. Lorenzo’s passion and dedication for his love of fashion is our driving force. Inspiration from our brand also comes from the dedication of wanting to inspire others. We want people around us to know that it isn’t impossible to pursue their dream. Our drive to succeed should motivate others to start thinking differently to what society says is and isn’t achievable.
Give some advice to all the up and coming fashion designers
Your first idea won’t always be the best. Believe it or not, not everyone will want you to succeed. It is important to have confidence and faith in yourself. Entering the fashion business doesn’t have to break the bank. Do your research and start small, but dream big. Definitely don’t be afraid to take opportunities when they’re presented.
What’s your message to the youth?
The biggest advice we can offer others is not to hesitate. Stop telling yourself that someday you will get around to doing it. The day needs to be today! Everyone needs to understand the truth about failure. Failing at something is your only true chance to grow as an individual. We want people to understand that if they don’t try, then they’ll never know the outcome. You can’t sit back and listen to society tell you it won’t work, if you haven’t given it a shot yourself. Humble yourself and believe in what you have to offer.
How do you want to impact the world?
Our impact on the world is to someday leave a legacy of self-expression. Hopefully, we create a long-lasting impression for generations to come.
We would like to give a specific shout out to our CA Clothing Group family. It is our fans and customers that make everything possible. If it wasn’t for them, none of this would be possible. Thank you for the support you provide and believing in the dream.

Wow, after what felt like a yearlong January it seems like February is finally here! With February come kicks, kicks, kicks! A lot of heat coming from Jordan Brand. Just like the rest of the world, I am excited for the Jordan 3 black cement to finally get the Nike Air on the back-heel tab. I remember taking an L back in 2011, but my brother and friend, Alex, were lucky and able to cop a pair. Let’s hope I have better luck some now 7 years later, but we shall see; with that being said I wanted to share some of the shoes I am most excited about this February. Hopefully you guys are as excited as I am about this month and this year in the sneaker world.
I have been interested in fashion and street fashion culture for as long as I can remember. I personally define street fashion culture as a mix of fashion and daily wear of self-expression but everyone has their own take. I recently I got the opportunity to sit down with street wear brand, FAIK ART, for an interview on their vision, what drives them to create, and one day being a huge staple in the street wear industry. Be sure to check them out on all social media linked at the bottom of the interview.
FAIK ART is a visual arts brand. Our visual identity represents a mixture of complementary forces that interact to create a sense of balance in the viewers world.
Art is necessary in everyday life. That’s why we created a collection of “chill-wear” clothing. Our casual, comfy clothes provide you with style and a bold visual experience.

Can you give some advice to all of the up and coming fashion designers?

This year is already off to a fast start and I can’t wait for what this year has in store for not only me but the people that view my blog on a regular basis. I would like to take a minute to kind of go over the things that I plan on doing with my blog this year.
The number one thing I can promise is more content!! I know I can go missing in action sometimes but this year I am committed to bringing you guys more content, more sneaker reviews, and more life stories. This leads me to my second promise regarding more life stories, which will allow me to give you more of an insight into my daily life and the journey to becoming a successful blogger. I am not here to talk about success but to share issues that I feel everyone is facing in some way and sharing my perspective on those issues. I believe that people are more interested in the grind and the battle to become successful rather than flaunting success after the fact.
The third promise I plan to do this year is to give up and coming artists a platform to display their talents; from local musicians, photographers, fashion influences, and anyone that is doing cool stuff that should have a platform. I am here to shine a spotlight on anything creative and on people that are doing amazing things around the world. So if you know of anyone who could use this platform please feel free to email me and we can network. I want everyone to be successful in whatever they are doing and however they define success. I want to thank anyone and everyone that has ever read an article or clicked on my link. I appreciate it very much and it means the world to me, so thank you!
In a time where we have Keeping up with the Kardashians, Instagram, and Snapchat it gives us the idea that everyone is happy all the time. This idea or illusion can at times make us envious of the life they are living and we could only dream about living that kind of life. In reality even mega stars and socialites have bad days and can be sad from time to time. So when things don’t seem to be going right for you don’t be down on yourself, everyone goes through it, everyone gets down or feels depressed, and guess what, it’s completely normal.
Mental health and self-care is very important and it’s a topic that most people are scared or embarrassed to talk about. We live in a world where everything is accessible in our hand, we have instant gratification and we want everyone to believe that our lives are perfect. In reality no person is happy every minute of everyday; we all go through ups and downs. No matter how much the media seems to show us that people are happy all the time it’s not reality, nor is it healthy for us to believe that it is or that we need to be. I believe that more people should step up and talk about mental health and self-care. As for me, I try to focus on positive energy and making sure my thoughts are in order before I start every day. Doing this used to be difficult for me due to my anxiety. With my anxiety I have a million negative and positive thoughts going through my head that it sometimes feels impossible to balance them. Some days are better than others, somedays you get caught up in your own thoughts and you end up talking yourself out of doing stuff or wondering what people are actually thinking about you when you do decide to do things. Although I do still continue to have these thoughts often, I still go out and do things and try new things because it’s better to live life than to live in fear of your thoughts and other people’s thoughts. No matter what you do people will say whatever and think whatever, I remind myself that every day is a new day to challenge myself and to push myself further than I had the day before. Mental health varies, some days you let your anxiety get the best of you and you don’t end up leaving the house and doing all those things that you had planned to do. But I realize that the less I think about something and actually do it, the more things I actually do. I have learned the more I write down and express my thoughts the better I feel. You may not deal with anxiety you may get down on yourself for simple things, you may know a friend that is down more than usual, but if you go out into the world knowing that everyone is fighting something whether it’s big or small and that they may not have an outlet. We can be someone’s outlet; it could be a simple hello or goodbye. I was always told at 70 you don’t remember all the things you did but you remember all the things you didn’t do. If we could all pass that along to someone having a hard time or going through a rough patch in their life we can all make the world a better place.
The sun doesn’t shine every day and no storm lasts forever, but eventually if you are going through something the light will always shine and things will always get better. We have to remember to stay positive and reach out and talk to people when we need to. Getting help or talking to someone because you have a problem doesn’t make you weak or less of a person, suffering when you don’t have to does. Sometimes we all need someone to talk to, we aren’t always happy living perfect lives we see on Instagram, those are just highlights but you miss the real game if all you look at is the highlights. Don’t miss out on your game, it ends too quickly.
